Chief Roboticist

About Us

Galactiv is a New Space company that intends to drive the growth of the emerging in-space services market. Initially developing technologies to bring satellite servicing operations to the commercial communications sector with satellites operating in geosynchronous orbit, we plan to expand on our offerings to accommodate other emerging industries. We are currently developing a mechanical payload for safely capturing satellites in-orbit and plan to integrate our technologies on a commercially available bus for early demonstration missions.

Job Description

Galactiv is looking for an experienced roboticist to drive the development of our satellite servicing payload, diving into broad and minimally defined design spaces to effectively lead early design efforts for the subsystem. A candidate will conduct trade studies, ideation exercises, and participate in our design reviews and systems engineering processes. Designs will be brought to maturity through detailed design, analysis, and drawing creation. A candidate will collaborate with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams to procure, fabricate, test, and ultimately fly the designed hardware. The ideal candidate has a strong research background in robotics, sensor systems, and space-qualified hardware.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Engineering crew to understand the key tasks and functions expected for subsystem design
  • Responsible for the development of the capture mechanism, consisting of commercially-available robotic arms, end-effectors, and sensors
  • Support the planning, development, review, and maintenance of subsystem requirements
  • Prepare materials for subsystem life cycle phasing and stakeholder presentations
  • Develop and maintain recommended operating procedures
  • Work proactively and independently in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment
  • Maintain professional relationships with support contractors
  • Perform other tasks assigned to support engineering and business efforts
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Master’s Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Work experience in a Systems Engineering role in an established Robotics environment
  • Experience using ROS and/or ROS 2 software
  • Experience with requirements development and system analysis of space hardware
  • Experience in the research and application of novel robotics technologies
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts/practices in the space hardware field
